Great success for ECSC swimmers at the British Champs in Glasgow
The British Swimming Championships this year were held at Tollcross International Swimming Centre, Glasgow between 16th and 21st April 2019. These championships see the fastest senior and junior swimmers in Britain racing for places to represent Team GB at major events. To even qualify for these championships is a huge achievement and all of GB's top swimmers were there, including Olympian and World Record Holder Adam Peaty.
Three Exeter City swimmers qualified across ten individual events. They were Alec White, Olivia Burrow and Flora Perkin all from our Performance Squad.
Alec White returned to Exeter as the second fastest junior in Great Britain in the 50m Butterfly. Alec also won the 100m Butterfly junior final which placed him as the 5th fastest junior overall and having also made the final of the 50m Freestyle where he is the 7th fastest junior. Alec also placed 14th fastest junior in the 100m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke. This performance in these various events has placed Alec as one of the top juniors in the country, narrowly missing out on selection for the GB junior team.
Flora Perkin qualified for the 100m Breaststroke junior final and placed 6th. Flora also competed in the 200m Breaststroke and 50m Breaststroke, where she was 17th and 29th respectively.
Olivia Burrow gained lifetime best times in the 200m and 100m Backstroke events, achieving 18th and 20th fastest junior respectively.
Head Coach, Jo John was really pleased with the results from the week’s swimming. Several senior swimmers moved on to University in September last year and a couple more moved from University into work, so it is pleasing to see the junior swimmers moving through to swim well at this level as the next generation of top swimmers here at Exeter.
One of the aforementioned senior swimmers, who moved from ECSC last September to start their Uni life, was Alec's older brother, Liam White, who now swims for Swansea University. He was also competing at the British Champs and in the senior final of the Men's 50m Backstroke won a super-impressive Bronze medal!
