Top Devon Awards

We would like to congratulate two members of our club who have been awarded prestigious Devon ASA Awards.

The Devon ASA Annual General Meeting has taken pace recently and prior to the the AGM it is the Devon Executive to decide on who is going to win the awards for the year. This year members of Exeter City Swimming Club were honoured, with not one, but two awards!

Neil Shire (Left in photo) is our Junior Performance Lead Coach and has been awarded the Devon Coach of the Year Award. This is fantastic news for Neil and it rightly recognises his recent achievements. The past 12 to 18 months have been a busy time for Neil, where he has achieved his Swim England Senior Coach qualification. He was also selected as Head Coach for the Devon Skills Camps in 2018 and has been selected again in this role for 2019, which is testament to how highly regarded Neil is. He has also been part of the organising committee and one of the coaches for our overseas Warm Weather Swim Camp in Fuerteventura in February this year. Neil alo heads and oversees his group of swimmers in our Junior Performance Squad, who have made great strides, continuing to qualify for County and Regional Competitions and progressing towards joining our Performance Squad.

Martin Walters (Right in photo) has been a committee member with Exeter City Swimming Club for a number of years now and works so hard in his role as our Competition Secretary, spending hours of his own free time organising and submitting our swimmers' entries to the numerous meets we attend throughout the year. Martin is also a committed swimming official, who is always in attendance at the numerous meets our swimmers enter, including the Devon County Championships held over a number of weekend's in January and the Devon Developments in June. Martin has worked through his various swimming officials qualifications over the years, building up his knowledge and experience, until at the end of 2018 he gained the British Swimming Referee qualification. This is a hard-earned qualification that requires superb knowledge of swimming rules and regulations and takes year's of dedication to achieve. As a result of Martins commitment to officiating, he has been awarded Devon Official of the Year.
