Winter National Performers
Swim England – Winter National Championships
Ponds Forge International Pool, Sheffield. 5th – 8th December 2019
Exeter City Swimming Club had six swimmers qualify for the Swim England Winer National Championships in Sheffield and five of them travelled to Sheffield to race at the Championships.
Alec White swam a lifetime best in the 100m Individual Medley to make the Youth final and finish 2nd in that final. He also made the final of the 100m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly, both in best times and also raced in the 100m Butterfly and 50m Freestyle.
Olivia Burrow recorded a seasons best time in the 200m Backstroke making the Final and going faster again, which was super impressive! Warren Barrett also recorded a seasons best time in the 50m Butterfly. Flora Perkin qualified in the 200m Individual Medley and recorded a season best time in the 200m Breaststroke as well. Sam Arrowsmith also had a successful meet and recorded a life time best time in the 200m Butterfly.
These swimmers have swum this event in heavy preparation for the Olympic trials and European Junior Championships which will be held in the Olympic Park in London in April, so weren't necessarily focussed on this as a target meet as a result. Head Coach Jo John said "I was very pleased with the results and especially pleased with the commitment the swimmers who qualified for Winter Nationals, but swimmers across all squads, are showing to training having lost their main training pool at Middlemoor Police HQ earlier this year. They now train at Tiverton for two mornings at 05:15 and two evenings at Mount Kelly in Tavistock and it is fantastic that the swimmers and parents are willing to make these journeys to support their progression in the sport".
Well done swimmers!
