Proud to be a Start Para-Swimming Hub Club

We are pleased to announce that as part of Swim England's expansion of their Start Para-Swimming programme, we have successfully been selected to become a Start Para-Swimming Centre.

As an inclusive club, which wants to provide everyone with an opportunity to achieve their goals in swimming, we see this an excellent opportunity to introduce swimmers to the Para-Swimming pathway. We are able to provide an opportunity to get on to this pathway via our renowned Swim School, or through one of our competitive swimming squads.

Club Chair, Dean Drury, says "Our committee and coaches see this is as a superb opportunity for swimmers from Exeter and the surrounding area to get on to the Para-Swimming pathway and we hope it may encourage swimmers, who previously have not considered competitive swimming to be available to them in our area, to come along, meet our coaches and take up this opportunity to train, improve and compete in a friendly, supportive and inclusive environment. We hope that swimmers will have been inspired by this Summer's Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo and want to take this opportunity to strive towards their goals".

This is what Swim England say on their website about the Start Para-Swimming pathway. "The sessions are delivered by Swim England qualified coaches and teachers and form a key stepping stone in introducing swimmers to the para-swimming pathway. Start Para-Swimming enables the Swim England Para-Swimming Talent team to be aware of swimmers much earlier in their journey. This could result in the swimmers being invited onto the talent programme, which develops athletes for national and international competition".

Para-Swimming is pool swimming for swimmers with a range of impairments, including physical, visual, intellectual and hearing impairments.

We will provide more information of the official launch date for our club, but we have some taster sessions this Sunday 26th September at Riverside Pool in Exeter. This session is between 4pm and 6pm. The session is currently fully subscribed, but if you wish to attend to watch the session, meet the coaches and perhaps get a feel for what this is all about, then you are very welcome to attend.

In the meantime if you would like to enquire about more information, visiting one of our sessions in the future to meet our coaches, view our facilities or to register an interest, then please email secretary@exeterswimming.com
