Supporting the Exmoor Open Water Swim

We are pleased to be supporting the Exmoor Open Water Swim in 2021.

The event is taking place on Sunday 26th September 2021 at Wimbleball Lake on Exmoor. The event has previously been won by our own King and Queen of the Moors, Neil Gilson and Gemma Owen. There are options to swim 1km, 2km, 4km or the big one - 6km! This year we hope to have a strong contingent of Exeter City Swimming Club members attending to take part in the event. Our club Chairman, Dean Drury, is leading the way having signed up for the 6km event, which will be his longest ever open water swim.

Many of our swimmers have got into open water swimming in recent years, with some excellent results at County, Regional and National Open Water Championships, as well as excellent results at other local South West open water events and challenges.

With lots of restrictions on pool swimming over the past 12 to 18 months due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, it has meant that our swimmers have found alternative ways to train and keep their feel for the water, by sea swimming and other open water swimming, in lakes and rivers.

We are very fortunate that the majority of our swimmers live close to the coast, or can swim in our many lakes and rivers in and around our beautiful county!
